Gabriel Calderón was a guest of the last edition of VIE Festival – when he also held a masterclass for playwrights – with his show Ex – que revienten los actores. The collaboration between the Uruguayan playwright and director and ERT, a collaboration that will continue in the near future, continued in autumn 2019 when Calderón directed the course “International Dramaturg” (approved by the Emilia-Romagna Region and co-financed by the European Social Fund ) of the ERT’s School of Theatre Iolanda Gazzerro.
In VIE 2020, the students of the course “International Dramaturg”, under the guidance of Calderón, become interpreters of the scenic reading of the text they collectively wrote.

«Part of an artist’s job is to read reality differently from the rest of the world. Discover interests, occasions, achievements, heroism or tragedy where the gaze of ordinary people does not find nuances. Exalting, smoothing out or dramatizing the edges of the real world makes our work as playwrights a dangerous moral game, where the only possible justification lies in the quality of the work of art. Finding a life that interests us and, in turn, making it interesting for others, is one of the most exciting challenges for a writer. We have developed a series of scenes based on the life of a real person. Some aspects of this biography have served us as initial material to tell and dramatize the progression of the plot, recreating coherence and fun in equal measure.»
